PARKLAND

With Zac Efron, Tom Welling, Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Marcia Gay Harden, James Badge Dale,

Written by Peter Landesman, Vincent Bugliosi (based on his book)
Directed by Peter Landesman

The subject of American president John F. Kennedy’s assassination (on 22 November 1963 in Dallas) remains an intriguing one. This film looks at the event, but from a slightly different perspective including the immediate days following it. The Parkland of the title refers to the hospital where both Kennedy and his alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald were taken shortly after.

It looks at the president’s immediate secret service men, the doctors and nurses trying to save his life in the hospital, Oswald’s brother and mother, and Mr. Zapruder (the presidential motorcade spectator whose 8mm film captured the assassination).

The emotions, confusion and frustration of this day are depicted very well and convincingly via all these real life characters. It doesn’t speculate on who did it, but focuses on the human factor of those connected to its aftermath.

(Some of the producers include actors Tom Hanks and Bill Paxton).
